This means that you can easily work out the size of a model just by dividing the real-life dimensions by the larger scale number (on the right-side of the “:” or “/”).

How to Work out the Size of a Model Using it’s Scale

Earlier we explained that you can easily work out the size of a model just by dividing the real-life dimensions by the larger scale number (on the right-side of the “:” or “/”). Let’s put this into practice, as we try to calculate the dimensions of a 1:18 scale Aston Martin DB5 model. First you will need to find out the real-life dimensions, you can usually get these by searching for them on google. For this example we are going to use this reliable source from Ultimate Specs.

Real-Life Dimensions

Length: 457.2 cm / 180 inches
Width: 167.6 cm / 65.98 inches
Height: 134.6 cm / 52.99 inches

Now to work out the sizes of a 1:18 DB5 model we would divide the above numbers by “18”. Giving us the following dimensions.
